Biography

Akolada is a mixed choral ensemble comprising 13-16 singers (sopranos, altos, tenors and basses) with a passion for Ukrainian folk music sung in traditional and contemporary choral arrangements. The group’s name appropriately comes from a musical term that unites voices from the treble and bass musical lines.

Notes

The relatively small size of the group and high quality performances make Akolada ideal for any occasion with an audience that appreciates Ukrainian folk music. Our repertoire and commentary is customized to the occasion and we strive to connect with the audience and elevate the event ambience.

Biography

Dzerelo Children’s Theatre Group perform concerts and plays at various cultural events in Edmonton and surrounding communities. This group of 5 – 15 year olds enjoys promoting Ukrainian culture, literature and arts among youth.

Korinnya Ukrainian Folk Ensemble has been entertaining around Calgary, Western Canada and Western United States since 1993. Korinnya mainly performs folk music but is also available to sing wedding or other religious ceremonies.

Biography

Mitelka Folkloric Theatre offers a rounded dance program to all ages: classical, character, pop, creative, folk and international rhythms. It also creates its own stories through a unique blend of dance, drama and music. Recent productions include, “Ludo and the Star Horse”, “oh, My Canada”, “Swan Lake”, “Celtic Warrior” (Ireland), “A Grain of Rice” (China), “Abiyoyo” (Africa).

Notes

Carol has a Ukrainian Bilingual Folk Song Book available for sale as well as some children’s books based on the Ukrainian folk stories they have staged. Carol also has a complete script of the epic musical “Echo of the Steppes” ready for the professional theatre. This was staged in the Peace country in 2006.

Orest is the conductor of two choirs – the Ukrainian Male Chorus of Edmonton and the Verkhovyna Choir. He is also an announcer/producer of Saturday and Sunday Breakfast classical music shows on CKUA Radio.

The Ukrainian Male Chorus of Edmonton was formed in 1984 with the objective of developing, promoting and fostering a greater appreciation for the traditions of Ukrainian choral singing.

The Ukrainian Male Chorus of Edmonton will perform as invited guests for concerts and events, in addition to organizing several of our own performances and events annually. The chorus is also available to sing for wedding services, and endeavors to sing several Divine Liturgies each year.

Over the group’s almost 20 year history, The Viter Ukrainian Dancers and Folk Choir have taken their place among the major performing ensembles of Canada by infusing the folk art of traditional Ukrainian dance and song with modern themes. Our vibrant presentations preserve traditional Ukrainian cultural elements while introducing a contemporary flair.
